Day 1,431: NYT: Trump discussed martial law and an election re-vote in White House meetings

Donald Trump is still floating sedition.

He lost the 2020 election and Joe Biden will be sworn in on January 20, one month from today. But that’s not stopping Trump from discussing wild fantasies of martial law and re-votes in a White House meeting just two days ago, according to the New York Times.

A Friday meeting at the White House turned “raucous,” with “shouting” aplenty, per the report. During that meeting, at which disgraced former national security advisor Michael Flynn was in attendance, Trump asked about the plan floated by Flynn on conservative media.

During an appearance on the conservative Newsmax channel this week, Mr. Flynn pushed for Mr. Trump to impose martial law and deploy the military to “rerun” the election. At one point in the meeting on Friday, Mr. Trump asked about that idea.

The meeting involved White House counsel and even the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, pushing back forcefully against the majority of what was being thrown out, including appointing a special counsel to look into baseless claims of voter fraud. Yet loud and discredited voices continued to play the music that Trump wanted to hear.

But Mr. Trump, egged on by supporters like Ms. Powell, has never conceded and, holed up inside the White House, he continues to assert that he actually won — even though the baseless claims Ms. Powell and others have made of widespread fraud have been thoroughly debunked and even many of Mr. Trump’s closest allies have dismissed as preposterous her tale of an international conspiracy to rig the vote.

Trump is in the White House and credulously asking about re-voting after election results have been certified and without a whiff of proven, widespread voter fraud. He is asking about the feasibility of the military in the streets, maintaining firm control.

Not only are these ideas the most anti-American imaginable, they’re being openly discussed in the White House.

These are the very ideas that Republicans have claimed to fear and loathe for years. As Trump is plotting his worst, the vast majority of the GOP have chosen to remain complicily silent, rooting on Trump’s retention of power by any means necessary.
