Day 995: Less than a week after Trump betrayed Kurdish allies, ISIS prisoners are free and American soldiers are under fire

That didn’t take long.

Earlier in the week, Donald Trump threw the Kurds, longtime American allies, to the Turkish wolves. By moving a small force of American troops from northern Syria, the road was clear for the Turks to invade and fire upon their longtime foes.

The Kurds have been fearless and loyal in fighting along side Americans and, according to the Department of Defense, were holding hoards of ISIS fighters in various prisons. A key concern with a Turkish attack was that those prisoners would soon return to the battlefield since the Kurds would have no way to protect themselves and guard prisoners.

As of Friday, that’s exactly what’s happening, with the added bonus of the Turks trying to intimidate the U.S. to pull back even farther.

ISIS, which was all-but completely eradicated, is set to become a force again because of a decision that Trump made that drew condemnation from virtually everyone from talking heads to politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Trump’s former lead on ISIS continues to be vocally critical of the betrayal. He’s also freely calling out Trump’s lies.

Trump made the world a more dangerous place with more bloodshed literally overnight for no reason. Leaning on authoritarianism and revealing deep ignorance, Trump claimed everything would be okay due to his “great and unmatched wisdom” if Turkey stepped out of line.

Now that Turkey has invaded Syria, attacked the Kurds and fired on American soldiers, how did Trump respond on Friday? By merely threatening economic sanctions against Istanbul.

Days after Trump’s disastrous maneuvering, the Middle East is more unstable, ISIS is far more likely to return and the value of a U.S. alliance has deteriorated. Meanwhile, Trump is set for campaign rallies and rounds of golf.
