Day 983: But her emails: Trump remains strangely obsessed with Hillary Clinton

Maybe it’s a mounting impeachment inquiry. Maybe it’s failures through virtually every policy pushed forward by his administration. Maybe it’s the constant churn of Cabinet members and top aides leaving the White House. But Donald Trump remains intensely and bizarrely focused on the 2016 election and, specifically, Hillary Clinton.

Three years later and he seems to think that Clinton is a politically relevant opponent. Promises to “lock her up,” have predictably gone nowhere, because Clinton was already thoroughly investigated. In speeches, Trump rambles on about her in both prepared and impromptu remarks.

On Twitter, it’s more of the same, including Sunday. He invoked Clinton’s name three times, including a continued obsession with her emails.

Since his inauguration, he’s tweeted about Clinton 319 times. That is, on average, over twice a week. The tune is roughly the same every time.

One thing seems certain as the tornado at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue spins on: Trump is going to continue beating the Hillary Clinton drum in an effort to deflect attention from himself by any means necessary.
