Day 971: Past Trump ended up accidentally criticizing current Trump by lambasting Obama fundraising
It’s even more hypocrisy emanating from the White House.
Donald Trump’s desire to be anywhere but the White House led him to California for a two-day fundraising jaunt that began Tuesday. The locations and donors are being kept shrouded in secrecy, but there are plenty of deep pockets throwing cash at Trump.
This week, Trump’s California fundraisers have attracted a new set of Republican donors and bundlers eager to be in the room with him in Northern and Southern California events, which will raise upwards of $15 million, party insiders say.
The White House and Trump reelection campaign declined to confirm the actual location but Silicon Valley’s affluent communities like Woodside and Atherton have been favorite fundraising locales for presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department would not confirm locations and referred calls on the matter to the White House press office, which declined comment.
After his Bay Area stop, the president will fly to Southern California for an evening event in the Beverly Hills-Bel Air 90210 area code. The fundraiser, held during Emmy week — when awards celebrating the television industry, a favorite target of Trump’s commentary, are handed out — is hosted by a longtime supporter, billionaire real estate mogul Geoffrey Palmer.
As he’s flying, his schedule and stamina are leaving him little time for anything besides TV-watching and tweeting.
Trump previously criticized Barack Obama for the exact same things (and worse) that he is currently doing. This includes an on-the-nose critique of a “two-day West Coast fundraising swing” that is “tax-payer funded.”
Trump doesn’t appear to be making any substantive visits to places of concern while in California, despite criticizing Obama for that in Texas.
Trump is, almost certainly, trying to make fundraising calls while flying around the country. He complained about Obama doing the same.
Over the past 970 days, Trump has severely cut back on intelligence briefings, generally taking no more than one or two per week. While past presidents, including Obama, read daily briefing reports, Trump has not only eschewed them, he has questioned the intelligence being given to him even when he’s in the White House. Yet he lamented Obama skipping briefings while fundraising.
Trump has visited his golf clubs over 230 times. He zinged Obama for fundraising and playing far less golf.
Take it to the bank: there’s no one more hypocritical on this subject than Trump.
