Day 962: Trump was about to meet the Taliban…on US soil…during 9/11 week…but didn’t because he learned they’re killers?

Huh?

None of this story makes any sense.

Donald Trump claimed he was about to meet Taliban leaders on U.S. soil Sunday, three days before the 18th anniversary of 9/11, but canceled after he found out that they were killers.

To have “major Taliban leaders” on U.S. soil is an extraordinary deal for about a million different reasons. Republicans loved to excoriate Barack Obama for reaching out to Cuban and Iranian leaders to try and improve relations. Meanwhile, Trump wants to meet actual terrorists who have actually attacked the U.S. and actually cost thousands of Americans their lives a few hundred miles from the sites they attacked.

Trump canceled the meeting because the Taliban admitted to an attack that killed 12 people, including an American soldier. But the Taliban have been killers for decades, and that can’t possibly be a revelation to Trump. To overlook decades of senseless killings to meet with them just days before the 18th anniversary of 9/11 makes it even more inconceivable from both a political and optics point of view.

To brag about canceling this ill-conceived meeting — before playing yet another round of golf — as if he’ll be praised for such action, shows true Trump delusional.

In total, the entire fiasco is more proof that Trump has absolutely no idea what he’s doing on virtually anything he’s responsible for.
