Day 958: Sharpie-gate: Trump tried to change time and space to avoid being wrong about Hurricane Dorian

In the grand scheme of Donald Trump’s time in office, Wednesday will likely just be a blip on the radar. But it did reveal, yet again, just how fragile his ego is and how unable he is to accept being wrong.

Days ago, Trump warned a number of states about incoming Hurricane Dorian. One of the states was Alabama, which was nowhere near the cone of potential danger. This led the National Weather Service, within minutes, to explicitly state that Alabama was in no danger.

His tweet came on Sunday, September 1.

Wednesday, rather than just letting the mistake go, Trump tried to bend time and space to “prove” he was right.

Trump tried bending time by using a forecast from Thursday, August 29, three days before his September 1 tweet.

The actual path on September 1 looked like this:

Trump also tried bending space by taking a marker to extend the path of the storm in an elongated and crooked measure into the very southeastern portion of Alabama. Trump figured that he could and would do what meteorologists couldn’t and wouldn’t to project the storm out even farther.

So on Wednesday, Trump made up a tracking path for what Dorian could have been projected to do a week ago, to try and prove himself correct from three days later. If that’s nonsensical it’s because Trump tried to change the past to make him correct in the more immediately past.

A later tweet, tripling down, displayed spaghetti models even earlier than a week ago. His Wednesday display in the Oval Office showed the storm northeast of Hispaniola, while the spaghetti model had the storm well south of the island.

Trump must be embarrassed by the media pointing out that he was ill-prepared for and ill-informed about Dorian. That’s likely due to playing numerous rounds of golf while the storm was bearing down after canceling a planned trip to Poland.
