Day 955: Trump’s Hurricane Dorian prep: golf, warning wrong state, saying he’s never heard of Category 5 storm (again)
Donald Trump canceled a weekend trip to Poland marking the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II. The White House claimed the trip was axed so Trump could prepare for a response to monster Hurricane Dorian bearing down on the East Coast.
Except Saturday he played golf.
And Sunday he seemed to have no idea what was going on.
Despite having owned property in Florida for decades, and overseeing response to three previous such storms during his tenure, Trump said he had never heard of Category 5 hurricane existing.
He has made the same claim, almost verbatim, during many previous storms.
He also told Alabama to brace for the storm…
…despite the state being nowhere near the potential cone for the path to take.
Trump’s tweet sent the National Weather Service to have to quickly reassure Alabamians that they were safe.
Trump was apparently too wrapped up with other things to worry about Dorian details. He spent much of the day ranting about TV hosts, James Comey, actress Debra Messing and plenty more things that had nothing to do with Dorian or yet another mass shooting.
When Trump canceled his trip to Poland, remaining woefully and publicly ignorant about a deadly hurricane wasn’t part of the promise.
