Day 944: Trump declares himself ‘the second coming’ and ‘the chosen one’

If another septuagenarian spoke like that, there’d be an immediate call for a mental evaluation.

Donald Trump’s mental status seems to be glossed over as “Trump being Trump” by everyone. But Wednesday’s bizarre ramblings make it clear that the most powerful person in the country, if not the world, should never be given a free pass.

First, he thanked conspiracy theorist and far right extremist Wayne Root, for calling him someone like “the King of Israel” and “the second coming of God” to Jews in Israel. (Apparently missing Root and Trump’s pandering was the knowledge that Jews don’t believe in the “first” coming.)

As if that wasn’t enough, Trump doubled down and openly declared himself “the chosen one” as he looked to the heavens.

He would later rant about Denmark’s economy because they wouldn’t sell him an 800,000 square mile landmass that was never for sale to begin with.

Meanwhile, Trump admitted to a group of a veterans service organization that he wanted to give himself the Medal of Honor, despite dodging the Vietnam War on numerous occasions, including for dubious bone spurs.

“That was a big day, Medal of Honor. Nothing like the Medal of Honor,” he continued. “I wanted one, but they told me I don’t qualify, Woody. I said, ‘Can I give it to myself anyway?’ They said, ‘I don’t think that’s a good idea.’”

There have been just 3,505 recipients of the Medal of Honor in American history, with over 1,500 of those awarded to Civil War participants. Trump thought it’d be funny, apparently, to joke about awarding himself the nation’s most prestigious personal military declaration. The Medal of Honor is for those service members who risk their lives above the call of duty and distinguish themselves through acts of valor.

Trump thought he qualified for that, somehow.

Watching him speak, there’s nothing that comes remotely close to the “very stable genius” that Trump likes to say he is.

Trump is 73-years-old. He is bragging about being treated like the King of Israel, the second coming of God, and being the chosen one. He wants to buy Greenland, and is throwing temper tantrums when he is told no. He wants to give himself prestigious honors for imaginary accomplishments.

If a random citizen was shouting an iota of these things on a street corner, or a grandparent was yelling them in a private residence, people would want the individual to be checked for mental impairment or dementia.

Trump, however, is given an absurd amount of cover by elected Republicans, Fox News and various talking heads who want to push the idea that Trump is playing some sort of chess. His words are shrugged off as trolling, or having fun, or not a big deal. In reality, they are the delusional ramblings of a dangerous man with nuclear codes and immense power.
