Day 942: Trump’s Monday Tweetfest was especially deranged

In a very familiar pattern, Donald Trump took Monday off to watch TV and tweet, apparently. With only an intelligence briefing on his schedule, he lied and pushed insane theories on Twitter all day.

He touted great cohesion in the Republican Party. Ironically, less than an hour later he blasted Republican Anthony Scaramucci, who lasted 10 days as White House Communications Director, as a “nut job.”

He couched replacing an existing wall with building a “new wall,” even though he hasn’t built a single mile of new barrier along the southern border.

He blasted his own handpicked and nominated chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jay Powell. Trump ludicrously and confusingly claimed Powell’s actions are allowing the Democrats to force a recession before 2020.

One of his biggest whoppers in a while — no small feat — was claiming that millions of votes were manipulated by Google in 2016. Trump is referencing as “just out” a report by a psychologist that was originally published two years ago and has already been widely debunked. On top of that, the numbers in Trump’s tweet weren’t even reflected in the report. Finally, the report talked about influence, not votes being changed at the ballot box, so Trump’s assertion that his victory “was even bigger than thought” is especially absurd.

Not content to stop there, Trump remained obsessed with debating crowd size from a rally in New Hampshire five days ago.

He tweeted out a cherry-picked approval rating that is nine points higher than his true approval rating of 42%.

And he trolled.

Maybe Trump believes Monday was some sort of personal success, but it was a sad reflection just how quickly things have changed. In less than three years, what would be the single most bizarre day for any other president is shrugged off by everyone because it’s Trump doing Trump things.
