Day 94: Donald Trump’s one-two punch: economic and scientific ignorance
Yesterday, news emerged the German Chancellor Angela Merkel had to explain to Donald Trump 11 times — 11! — that Germany and the U.S. could not do a deal directly since Germany is a member of the European Union during their meeting last month.
It’s one thing to not know something — basic as the E.U.’s trade policy should be for an American president to know — but to have a self-proclaimed “very good brain” and fail to understand what someone is telling you on ten occasions over a short meeting calls into question serious things about Trump’s capacity to take in information.
If he can’t understand simple things like “we can’t trade with E.U. since all trade has to go through the E.U.” ten times, how is he expected to grasp more complex issues, such as military operations, tax reform, worldwide diplomacy or immigration?
Later, on Earth Day, he tweeted.
Oh, hey, that’s not bad. Even if his policy is antithetical to that tweet, maybe the leopard is changing his spots a bit.
Uhh, never mind on that leopard thing.
He’s committed to keeping air and water clean but jobs are more important?
First of all, there is zero evidence that economic growth somehow enhances environmental protections. If anything, the opposite may be true.
Second, to pollute our nation and planet for short-term jobs is one reason having a 70-year old president is so dangerous. He’s looking at getting a bump in poll numbers but isn’t particularly concerned about what the planet looks like in 50 years.
Third, never forget that his words on environmental issues mean nothing and he’s too clueless to understand what most scientists have studied.
