Day 932: North Korea is still playing Trump like a fiddle
Donald Trump stood in front of the White House Friday and bragged about yet another “very beautiful letter” from North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. Desperate to keep selling the appearance of things going according to plan — or even the existence of a plan — Trump continued to heap effusive praise on Kim.
While speaking to reporters, he was more critical of longtime ally South Korea than he was of North Korea.
Meanwhile, Pyongyang continued to test missiles, even after the “very beautiful letter” was delivered. It’s at least the fifth such test by North Korea in recent weeks.
Trump wants to keep up the facade that the Singapore and Hanoi summits were wildly successful. He wants to pretend that crossing the border into North Korea in June was anything but a total public relations win for Kim. So he discounted more missile tests by Pyongyang while bending over backwards to avoid showing solidarity with Seoul.
