Day 921: Continuing a shameful 18-year pattern, Trump lies about 9/11 for personal gain yet again

Donald Trump has shamelessly lied about and capitalized on the September 11th terrorist attacks in a multitude of ways for nearly two decades.

• He claimed that he donated money to 9/11 charities after the terrorist attacks. (He didn’t, audits showed.)
• He did, however, take pocket taxpayer-funded grants meant for small businesses in the wake of the attacks by claiming his business suffered.
• He claimed “a heavy Arab population” cheered as the World Trade Center fell: “And I watched in Jersey City, N.J., where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering.” (He didn’t, because that never happened.)
• He did, however, brag just hours after the attack that he now owned the tallest building in Manhattan.
• He claimed he helped comb through the rubble to look for survivors. (He didn’t.)
• He did, however, tweet out in 2013, “I would like to extend my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, September 11th.”

Monday he was at it again, where he claimed he was at Ground Zero in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

Apparently trying to simultaneously be magnanimous and braggadocious, Trump got as close to calling himself a first responder as humanely possible — putting himself in the same breath as real heroes — despite not being a firefighter, police officer, paramedic or any other type of responder.

He put himself in Manhattan at Ground Zero in the aftermath of the attacks on the day he signed a bill into law that funded actual heroes’ real medical issues. But there are no pictures of the never media shy Trump at or near Ground Zero, and there’s no proof that he was ever there after the Twin Towers fell. Getting there from his apartment miles away, where he allegedly was, would have been nearly impossible on 9/11. Between security and the actual first responders doing their job, getting close to the site was impossible even shortly after the attacks.

Pictures and videos of Trump at the site don’t exist because he wasn’t there. He was never there. Continuing a heinous pattern, he’s lying about 9/11, again, to make himself look better.
