Day 916: Trump took Wednesday off to watch, rage-tweet Mueller testimony
Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he would be busy on Wednesday and not watching Robert Mueller’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee and House Intelligence Committee.
His schedule said otherwise, as there was nothing on it until leaving for a fundraiser in the afternoon. Instead of working anything approaching a full day — which is rare these days anyway — Trump spent all day rage-tweeting and re-tweeting before, during and after Mueller’s testimony, sending over 30 tweets over the course of the day.
While Mueller’s testimony was largely underwhelming and provided little new information considering the amount of time he testified for, it did highlight a few key issues.
Trump’s ire and the frequency of his tweets are often correlated. His sore fingers surely indicate his thoughts about how today went. He’ll do whatever he can to spin, spin, spin, including berating reporters with “fake news” claims on the White House lawn, as he did Wednesday afternoon. He’s propping up embarrassing Republican sycophancy and conspiracy theories peppered into their questions into exoneration. But Mueller’s report is there rebutting that, and Mueller’s testimony is there rebutting that, and facts are there rebutting that.
The only real question that remains: what will Democrats do about it?
