Day 906: It’s not surprising racist Trump got racist again

Donald Trump has always been a racist. It’s not old news at this point. Between excluding black people from renting out apartments in his buildings, calling for the execution of the Central Park Five (and not apologizing or backing off when they were exonerated), broadly calling Mexican immigrants “rapists,” wanting to exclude all Muslims from entering the U.S., stoking the Barack Obama birther conspiracy for years, demeaning immigrants from what he called “shithole countries,” and saying and doing a laundry list of other horrific things, his hatefulness and inclinations are well established.

So it shouldn’t be a surprise when Trump tweeted out his racist thoughts about four Democratic congresswomen on Sunday, including telling them to “go back” to their countries despite three of them being born in the U.S.

The congresswomen he’s referring to are pretty clearly a group frequently linked together: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). Notably, and not coincidentally, all four of the congresswomen are minorities.

All but Omar were born in the U.S., and she became a naturalized citizen in 2000. And yet, Trump is telling them to “go back” to where they “originally came from” and adds they “can’t leave fast enough.” Trump is upset about U.S. congresswomen — and women of color — having an opinion about how the U.S. government should operate. In reality, the previous sentence could have ended after the word “opinion.”

The women all responded to Trump’s racist rhetoric with strength and facts.
