Day 904: Trump promised he’d hire only ‘the best people’ for top roles. The last 30 months says otherwise.
Alex Acosta “resigned” from his post as Labor Secretary Friday, yet another casualty in Donald Trump’s Cabinet. Acosta resigned due to fallout from handing pedophile Jeffrey Epstein a sweetheart plea deal over a decade ago. Epstein was arrested earlier this week on additional charges related to his sex crimes against children.
For Trump, the resignation will leave yet another opening in his administration and is yet another shot across the bow of one of his signature campaign promises to hire “the best people.”
Trump now has a plethora of individuals working critically important positions in an acting capacity, if they’re filled at all.
The list of high-profile departures is quite lengthy.
Many were slandered by Trump out the door — hello, Tillerson, Sessions and Bannon— and others have been hopelessly inept — hello, Gorka, Spicer and Priebus. Some were wildly corrupt — hello Pruitt and Zinke — and some left for other scandal s— hello, Flynn and Acosta. A few left for hilarious reasons — hello, Scaramucci and Manigault — and some just had enough — hello, Haley and Hicks.
The amount of turnover is unprecedented in modern times.
The laundry list of departures is embarrassing, but Trump’s inability to fill vital roles with qualified individuals is downright dangerous.
