Day 881: Fundraising dinner at Trump Hotel a day after he claimed ‘my only special interest’ is American people
During a quieter-than-expected reelection rally Tuesday, Donald Trump frequently spoke in boring generalities, with very little substance attached. At one point he shouted, “My only special interest is you. I don’t have a special interest.”
If it hasn’t been clear for two-and-a-half years how untrue that statement is, Wednesday night reaffirmed how ludicrous it is.
That’s right, one of Trump’s biggest supporters in the House, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is having a fundraising dinner…at Trump International Hotel…hosted by Trump’s son.
During the dinner, the hotel will presumably pocket substantial room rental fees, food and beverage fees and more. A chunk of the profits will eventually end up in Trump’s personal bank account. Trump International Hotel has acted as a conduit for all sorts of emoluments issues since Trump’s election, as foreign leaders and lobbyists frequently stay there in a pretty transparent attempt to curry favor with Trump.
There are many fundraising events that happen at the hotel and his other properties too, some directly for Trump, some for the RNC and some for individuals, like Wednesday’s. All help to line Trump’s pockets, undercutting his claim that he has no special interests outside the presidency.
