Day 871: In between rounds of golf, Trump has a typical and spectacularly unhinged weekend
Donald Trump played golf Saturday and Sunday, proving that a midweek, taxpayer-funded multi-million dollar vacation to his golf course in Ireland didn’t satiate the man.
Sunday’s visit marked an eye-popping 194 days on golf properties and 260 days at Trump properties in just 871 days.
In between rounds of golf, Trump was as unhinged as ever.
He was telling whoppers about a declaration with Mexico. He was reduced to retweeting his own tweets from Friday lying about the details of what the U.S. and Mexico agreed to.
He was dangerously villainizing the free press.
Ironically, at the same time, he was demanding alt-right conservatives be reinstated to Twitter so they could — wait for it — engage in free speech. (Freedom of speech protections in the Constitution only protect citizens from government censorship, not hate mongers from being able to use a company’s website however it wants.)
He was trying to rewrite the Mueller report, despite what is contained in its 448 pages and Robert Mueller’s own words.
And he ended Sunday by retweeting a near endless string of alt-right nut jobs who will do anything to carry Trump’s water.
So while this weekend was typical for Trump, it’s important to remember that it’s not typical for literally anyone else. In fact, if any other elected official acted like Trump — calling the free press the enemy, cozying up to racists and conspiracy theorists, and trying to rewrite established facts borne out over two years of impartial investigation — there would be serious concern and calls for mental evaluation.
