Day 854: Current Trump insults Past Trump in hilarious fashion

Donald Trump was upset Thursday, apparently about reports that his former Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, told members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday that Trump was unprepared for a first meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin. While Trump was unready, Putin seized the moment to push on specific policies.

Thursday, Trump tweeted his thoughts on Tillerson.

Trump openly admits that Tillerson was “totally ill prepared and ill equipped to be Secretary of State.” That seems to ignore one hugely important point: Trump nominated him.

Enthusiastically.

Tillerson, who was confirmed after receiving support from every Republican senator, was a disaster of a Secretary of State. He frequently made missteps and butted heads with Trump before being fired via tweet.

But the fact that Tillerson was lacking the credentials to do the job wasn’t a surprise in the least. Here’s what we wrote on Day -40: Unqualified Friend of Russia to Lead U.S. State Department:

Tillerson, who seemingly has zero credentials for a job of this magnitude, is a good friend of Russia. You know, the same Russia that intelligence agencies unanimously agreed interfered with the U.S. election in an effort to help Donald Trump win.

But it’s still hilarious to see, 894 days later, current Trump throw past Trump under the bus, and seemingly be oblivious to the contradiction.

854 days in, 608 to go
