Day 845: Trump wants to bail out farmers — again — for a trade war he started — again

For the third time, Donald Trump wants to bail out farmers — using money borrowed from China — to lessen the impact of his trade war with China. It’s a tactic that could readily be described as socialism, a political and economic theory he professes to loathe.

This time, the plan is to dip into taxpayers’ pockets to the tune of $15 billion.

As we noted on Day 697, during his second bailout, “Trump couched the bailout as a ‘market facilitation payment’ but it’s really just a payoff for wasted crops.”

While Trump declared on Tuesday that farmers’ time “is now,” his reckless trade war reveals he doesn’t care about them at all. He tried some bizarre logic by claiming the trade war is actually a win for farmers.

So Trump is pretending that money from tariffs — which are ultimately paid by the American taxpayer buying the end product— will somehow be funneled to pay a third bailout to farmers who can’t continue their businesses in a free market as a result of Trump’s tariffs.

If that sounds totally illogical and nonsensical, it’s because it is.
