Day 827: Trump seems to have invented a ‘Cheif [sic] Hostage Negotiator’ to prop himself up

Donald Trump’s laughable and obsessive self-back-patting reared its head again Friday. Amid reports that the U.S. was billed $2 million by North Korea to release comatose Otto Warmbier from Pyongyang, Trump tried to push back in the most awkward of ways.

Trump seems to have totally invented the tweeted quote.

For one, it doesn’t appear that “Chief Hostage Negotiator, USA” is a real position. Even if it was a real position, if the quote was real, Trump would surely cite the person who said it and the medium and context for which it was said. (Trump has a history of inventing people or writing quotes for others to make himself look better.)

Additionally, and maybe even more embarrassingly, Trump seems to have forgotten the grammar axiom “I before E except after C,” misspelling “chief,” a word most fifth graders could spell correctly.

The use of an imaginary quote by a non-existent person? Fake news.
