Day 826: Donald Trump wishes his approval rating was at 50%

Nobody loves cherry-picking poll data more than Donald Trump. That was the case again Thursday, a week after the Robert Mueller report was published, detailing obstruction of justice by Trump and collusion by his campaign.

Trump claimed that his approval rating sat at 50%, citing a poll by the very conservative-leaning Rasmussen Reports.

In reality, a blended average shows Trump polling around 41%. Notably, Trump has never had an approval rating near 50%.

For comparison sake, at no point of his presidency, has Trump been more popular than Barack Obama or George W. Bush were at the same point of their own presidencies.

He’s historically unpopular and that fact bothers him more than it would bother most, leading to tweeting about poll numbers — real or imagined — on a constant basis.
