Day 824: Trump complained about number of followers for most of meeting with Twitter CEO
Donald Trump is obsessed with Twitter and numbers, so it’d make sense that he’s totally consumed by his follower count. (Note: @TrumpTimer has been blocked from following Trump’s Twitter account, @realdonaldtrump.)
He began Tuesday with a rambling and incoherent complaint about perceived persecution of conservatives on social media, something social networks vehemently deny.
The opposite may be true for Trump: while his comments and personal attacks may have gotten other users suspended, Trump seems immune from Twitter punishment.
Awkwardly, Trump met Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey in a closed-door meeting later Tuesday, where he spent the majority of time complaining about his follower count, according to a Washington Post report.
A significant portion of the meeting focused on Trump’s concerns that Twitter quietly, and deliberately, has limited or removed some of his followers, according to a person with direct knowledge of the conversation who requested anonymity because it was private. Trump said he had heard from fellow conservatives who had lost followers for unclear reasons as well.
Twitter bans bots and spam accounts frequently, which Dorsey noted. This affects many high-profile accounts more than most, including Trump’s and even Dorsey’s.
It really says it all that one of the most powerful people in the world is concerned about how many people are following him on a website.
