Day 816: Trump’s plan to fight Notre Dame Cathedral would have collapsed entire structure, put civilians in danger
Donald Trump likes to think of himself as some sort of genius about an array of topics that he has no training and less knowledge about. That includes renewable energy, technology and nuclear fallout, among a laundry list of other things.
So when he saw the Notre Dame Cathedral burning in Paris on Monday, Trump put on his imaginary fireman’s helmet and tried to give advice on how to put out the flames: flying water tankers.
The problem with just throwing out solutions to try and look smart based on zero topical knowledge is you’re often very, very wrong.
That was the case for Fireman Trump because his option would have been catastrophic.
The historic cathedral mostly survived, thanks in part to trained firefighters who know what they were doing. Building collapse was relatively minimal considering the breadth of the flames.
Deferring to people with more knowledge is not something that Trump knows how to do. Just last week he proclaimed that he alone runs the Department of Homeland Security. And earlier Monday he tried to give Boeing business advice while apparently forgetting that he bankrupted his own airline in the 1990s.
