Day 810: Missing irony, Trump tweets support for former POWs
Donald Trump has lambasted John McCain while the late senator was alive and after he died. Among Trump’s grossest insults were that McCain didn’t deserve to be celebrated for his service because he was captured, with Trump adding “I like people that weren’t captured.” (Trump famously took five deferments — including a dubious one related to bone spurs — to avoid the Vietnam War, where McCain was captured and held as a prisoner of war for five and a half years.)
Perhaps forgetting the numerous instances of slander, Trump tweeted out a salute to former prisoners of war on Tuesday.
McCain’s daughter, Meghan, basically speaking for everyone who has heard Trump’s rhetoric, called him out for the obviously faux sentiments.
Trump and his administration have treated the military like a prop for years and continued to do so on Tuesday.
