Day 807: Trump on desperate asylum seekers: they’re ‘animals’
The deplorable things out of Donald Trump’s mouth just keep coming. Friday, while speaking about immigration and asylum seekers — who are desperate to escape dangerous conditions at home for entry into the U.S. with little more than the clothes on their back — Trump exhibited his rampant racism and xenophobism yet again.
He described the people lawfully seeking entry into the U.S. as “animals.”
It’s clear from the context of Trump’s words that he isn’t merely talking about criminals and gang members, as his previous similar statements have been explained by the White House. He’s talking about people — including many women and children — that are just trying to survive.
Trump has called white supremacists “very fine people” and frequently dehumanizes law-abiding, would-be immigrants.
Though he says things like he did Friday on a frequent basis, it deserves severe scorn, condemnation and pushback every single time.
