Donald Trump transition team member and Republican congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) stepped down from his position as head of the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday.

Nunes, a former dairy farmer, was leading the investigation into Russia’s meddling into the presidential election.

Nunes has been embroiled in scandals basically since the beginning of the investigation: sneaking off to the White House to brief Trump in a severe breach of protocol, relying on secret sources who he refused to divulge to other committee members (and who turned out to work in the White House), cancelling hearings and generally obstructing the investigation to fit a chosen narrative.

Nunes classified his stepping down as temporary and blamed left-wing activists for ginning up a controversy for politically-motivated means.

His statement implies that he is learning more about the still baseless claim that Barack Obama’s administration spied on Donald Trump, and that’s the reason he was ousted.

However, closely following Nunes’ statement, the House Ethics Committee had one of their own.

They’re investigating Nunes for possibly making “unauthorized disclosures of classified information, in violation of House Rules, law, regulations, or other standards of conduct.”

A Trump transition team member who was in charge of leading the investigation into election malfeasance and admitted to handling many things poorly, is blaming progressives and conspiracy theories for being forced to step down from a committee he was too incompetent to lead.
