Day 763: Trump’s lies about the border wall are as transparent as the wall is

No, new wall isn’t currently being installed in New Mexico.

Donald Trump is desperate for a border wall win. He shut down the government for five weeks and couldn’t get wall funding. He gave Congress an ultimatum for wall funding, that they largely ignored. Mexico isn’t cutting a check. His emergency declaration is being undercut by facts, as well as Trump’s own words and actions.

So he’s falling on his favorite option: lying.

Trump is heavily implying that the structure being built is new wall as a result of his actions. But that’s being undercut by the very people building said structure.

First, the video is old.

And it’s of pre-approved repair and maintenance work, not new wall, says the Army Corps of Engineers, who are working on the project.

To summarize the last two months regarding Trump’s border wall:

• Hold the government and federal employees hostage. (Lose.)
• Threaten Congress. (Lose.)
• Refuse to make Mexico open their wallet. (Lose.)
• Declare a national emergency for political reasons. (Being challenged in court, and likely in Congress.)
• Lie that maintenance work is new wall.
