Day 758: In the middle of ‘national emergency’ Trump waits for eggs in front of Trump poster at Trump golf property in Florida

Donald Trump declared a national emergency on the southern border Friday and managed to kneecap his own argument immediately. Largely seen as a ruse to get around the Appropriations Clause in the Constitution, Trump is desperate to get border wall funding. This despite the lack of appetite for it by the American people, the Senate, the House and the fact that he swore Mexico would pay for the wall.

In the midst of such an “emergency” — at least an attempt to play one up — a typical president would be scrambling to fortify all of the various issues that come with such a proclamation, especially as legal challenges are sure to mount.

Trump was worried about a different scramble Saturday morning, however.

He flew to Florida and waited for an omelette. At a Trump-owned golf property. In front of a Trump poster unironically asking, “Can you walk the walk?” As people casually linger and stroll and nosh around him.

Doesn’t seem like Trump is particularly concerned about a “national emergency.”
