Day 723: Trump sets ignominious record: longest government shutdown in U.S. history

Donald Trump likes to boast about nearly everything, no matter how minute or bizarre. Some of his favorite things to brag about tend to be completely unquantifiable like, “no one has been better for the military than me” or “I have done more for workers than anyone ever.” Trump also likes to just make facts and figures up too.

However, Saturday he set an actual record, though perhaps one he shouldn’t be so proud of: at 22 days, the government has now been shutdown longer under Trump than any other president in U.S. history.

Trump confusingly tweeted that he has a plan to get out of the shutdown, but over the past three weeks, none has been apparent as Americans continue to suffer.

How long the shutdown will continue is anyone’s guess, but with Trump at the helm, the situation appears to be in the same position that it was three weeks ago.

723 days in, 739 to go
