Day 717: Trump thinks he can fool Democrats by calling his dream wall a ‘steel barrier’

Donald Trump apparently believes Democrats are naive enough to think that by changing the word “wall” to “steel barrier,” he can get billions of taxpayer dollars to pay for the structure along the southern border.

His proclamation isn’t new news: Trump’s been saying for weeks and months that the wall would be a “steel slat” structure and no longer made of concrete. For him to claim that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) or the Democratic Party would be fooled by a simple word change is more than laughable. It shows how the self-professed “master negotiator” — who isn’t even at the actual budgetary negotiations —is truly outmatched about anything of substance.

Of course, as is so often the case, today’s rhetoric is undercut by yesterday’s words.

Trump is desperate to find a way out of a government shutdown that he both engineered and didn’t even understand. Trying to win the public relations battle by changing what he’s calling the wall is a losing strategy and is not going to flip any votes in his favor.
