Day 715: Trump threatens government shutdown could last for ‘months or even years’

Donald Trump, still stubbornly believing he’ll get American taxpayers to fund his dream wall on the southern border, has vowed to veto any spending bill that doesn’t address the issue.

How extreme is Trump claiming he’ll get?

Apparently, he’s willing to leave the government shuttered until his presidency is over.

Offering no proof, Trump went on to laughably claim that many federal workers are the “biggest fan[s]” of an extended, unpaid furlough in exchange for a wall.

Trump also asserted that Republicans in the House and Senate were behind him on the issue. Notably, however, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was literally not standing with other GOP leaders behind Trump in the Rose Garden on Friday.

Trump demanded the wall as a necessity as to protect against America’s permanent bogeyman: “terrorists.”

Trump has come up with many, many excuses and new narratives about the wall.

But by claiming he’s willing to shut down the government for years if necessary, Trump is proving more than ever that the wall is an imaginary physical manifestation of a political stunt. That millions of Americans are harmed by such a farce is irrelevant to him, because all he’s thinking about is desperately scoring points with the far right wing of his base by any means necessary.
