Day 711: Trump fittingly ends 2018 with lies and anger

Donald Trump is a liar of historic proportions. He has proven there is zero shame in lying about things substantial, inconsequential and everything between. He continued that trend on New Year’s Eve when he claimed he was busy working in the Oval Office.

But as one sharp-eyed reporter pointed out, that was clearly not true based on the fact that there was no Marine stationed at the door, as is always the case when the president inside. (The time stamps on the tweets appear to show Trump’s tweet after the reporter’s, however Trump deleted an earlier tweet that claims Democrats “voted yes in 2006 and 3013.”)

Trump also pretended that foreign heads of state are calling to lament that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is blocking ambassadorships from being filled. Besides the obvious farcical nature of the tweet, the reality is that Republicans control the Senate, have 50 votes they need to approve whoever they want and can largely move appointments at whatever pace they want. Trump dragged his feet on government-wide positions that required Senate consent, triggering a substantial backlog.

His vitriol boiled over too, as he ranted about his dream of a border wall by comparing it to a wheel — something he has strangely done more often over the past few weeks— and people dying. Showing laughable ignorance, he scoffed at the idea of technology being able to help in any way with illegal immigration.

As the world moves to 2019, Trump seems to have learned nothing. He continues to fall back into the same error-prone rants and cycles he exhausted in 2017 and 2018.
