Day 704: Bah humbug: Trump laments ‘all alone (poor me)’ all alone’ on Christmas Eve

Hundreds of thousands of federal workers are currently furloughed without a paycheck. Hundreds of thousands more are being forced to work without one too. All because Donald Trump engineered a government shutdown.

Now, instead of being in the middle of a two-plus week vacation in South Florida, Trump is in the White House, forced to deal with the effects of his shutdown when no solution is readily available. Since he’s demanding border wall funding, and there’s no appetite to give him such funding, a stalemate could go on awhile.

And that prospect is not stopping him from issuing woe-is-me tweets.

Trump could have had a continuing resolution funding the government signed, sealed and delivered, pushing the fight off for a few more months and allowing public servants a relaxed holiday. Instead, he’s content to play games with people’s paychecks while unsuccessfully trying to make the nation feel bad for him about an issue he started.

704 days in, 758 to go
