Donald Trump decided to channel his inner George W. Bush and hang a metaphorical “Mission Accomplished” banner on Twitter. While Bush gave a speech on an aircraft carrier about the Iraq War — a conflict that wouldn’t end for an additional eight and a half years after his 2003 speech — Trump’s proclamation was in reference to fighting ISIS is Syria. He also announced that the U.S. would withdraw the 2,000 or so American troops in the region providing vital assistance and intelligence.

It was a shocking statement considering no one else around him was saying the same thing, including the State Department or Pentagon.

Even Republicans were shocked and issued a rare sharp rebuke of Trump.

Russia, however, was ecstatic about Trump’s decision.

ISIS must have thrilled too.

If Trump’s goal was to get everyone but U.S. enemies to be angered by a dangerous decision: Mission Accomplished.
