Day 698: Trump on Monday: border wall will save billions a year; Trump on Tuesday: border wall will save billions a month

Donald Trump’s quest for a southern border wall has always been an ever-changing dream. Initially it was going to be an opaque behemoth and span from coast to coast. Of course, Mexico was going to pay for it too. The wall was going to be 50 feet high and it would get even higher if Mexico objected to its construction, Trump exclaimed at rallies.

All of those things have been debunked by practicality and time, and Trump is now begging Congress to give him $5 billion of U.S. taxpayer money for partial, slated wall and fencing.

The story of the wall changed again this week in another way, too: the nebulous economics of savings.

Monday, Trump claimed the wall would save billions dollars per year, based on no empirical data whatsoever.

Apparently unimpressed by his own made-up numbers, by Tuesday the number skyrocketed to billions of dollars per month.

At this rate, Trump will announce that there will billions of savings per week on Wednesday, per day on Thursday and per hour on Friday.

As if there was any question surrounding Trump’s skepticism of data-based math, he laid that to rest Tuesday too.

Trump is saying that when the numbers don’t say what you want, just make them up.
