Day 667: Trump laughably claims he and Pence are BFFs

Donald Trump and Mike Pence have had an oil-and-water type of relationship for over two years. Trump has disliked the Pences: he finds them “embarrassingly poor,” thinks their decision to bring their family pets to Washington was classless and in general disdains them. In turn, the Pences have found Trump to be a boorish and vile oaf.

It doesn’t take a genius in reading body language to see that the two don’t have the kinship of many of their predecessors. That probably has to do with the fact that Trump is an ignorant and foul-mouthed, thrice-married womanizer while Pence is an oddball, zealot, sycophant and stooge. Yes, Pence is frequently willingly do Trump’s bidding, but mainly because he wants to be president one day and sees that as his only path.

And now Trump is curious just how deep that loyalty goes, according to The New York Times, as he looks to a 2020 re-election bid.

In recent weeks, with his electoral prospects two years from now much on his mind, Mr. Trump has focused on the person who has most publicly tethered his fortunes to him. In one conversation after another he has asked aides and advisers a pointed question: Is Mike Pence loyal?

Mr. Trump has repeated the question so many times that he has alarmed some of his advisers. The president has not openly suggested dropping Mr. Pence from the ticket and picking another running mate, but the advisers say those kinds of questions usually indicate that he has grown irritated with someone.

Trump pushed back on the Times’ report, essentially saying he and Pence are best friends.

Trump claimed that no one could have a better and closer relationship with their veep.

And yet…

Surely there must be scores of photos of Trump and Pence in similar poses to Barack Obama and Joe Biden out there somewhere. Just like the many stories that detail the two men’s working and personal respect for one another. They just must have never been published in some type of deep state conspiracy.
