Day 660: Trump skipped cemetery visit to honor fallen WWI heroes because it was drizzling

World War I ended 100 years ago, as heroic Americans — along with their allies —successfully fought through rain and mud and blood and bullets for the freedom of the world.

Saturday, Donald Trump decided he could not fight even the rain and mud to honor fallen Americans at a cemetery outside Paris. While he tweeted birthday regards for the Marine Corps, he cancelled an appearance at Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial where over 2,000 fallen Americans from WWI — including many Marines from the Battle of Belleau Wood — are buried.

Not all world leaders skipped the event. In fact, Trump was the only one to cancel, as leaders from France, Germany and Canada made the solemn visit.

French President Emmanuel Macron not only attended the event, he did so despite being with Trump earlier in the day, putting to bed the idea that it wasn’t feasible for Trump to go.

What was Trump up to instead?

Yelling at fires on Twitter.

Accusing an unknown person or people, apparently, of trying to steal elections in Florida, despite the lack of evidence as to that claim.

And blaming Baltic leaders for a Balkan war nearly three decades ago.

Trump loves to proclaim that nobody loves or respects the troops more than him. Yet a little drizzle caused Trump to cancel a trip honoring American heroes on Veteran’s Day weekend. Instead, he chose to tweet from a hotel room. And the next time Trump visits troops in Afghanistan, will be the first time he does so.

660 days in, 802 to go
