Day 652: Now Michael Cohen is acknowledging Donald Trump is bigly racist

Over many decades, Donald Trump has done a very poor job trying to convince the world he isn’t a racist bigot. From his actions, to his words, to the words of co-workers, the evidence is abundant.

There are the (very) slightly more subtle things he says and does, like when when he proclaimed that Barack Obama made it impossible for another black person to be president for generations, furthering a mentality of “they’re all the same” to him.

He’s blown a similar dog whistle in recent days.

He’s given cover to white supremacists, pointed a black man at one of his rallies and exclaimed, “Look at my African-American over here!” and has proclaimed — without any evidence — that people trying to enter the country from Mexico are disproportionately rapists, murders and other types of criminals. With the midterms approaching, Trump is also tweeting obvious race-baiting videos, trying to lump all Hispanic immigrants in with one heinous murderer.

Considering all of these goings-on all happening in the light of day, it should come as no surprise that Trump’s language is even more pointed behind the scenes. Trump’s former longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, told Vanity Fair that Trump told him the following over the years:

“[B]lack people are too stupid to vote for me.”

“Name one country run by a black person that’s not a shithole. Name one city.”

On choosing a winner from Season 1 of The Apprentice, when the final two contestants were a black man and white man: “There’s no way I can let this black f-g win.”

Trump’s blatantly racist (and homophobic) remarks as echoed by Cohen are not a surprise considering what has been known about him for years. The bigger questions are why so many people feel the need to cover for him for so long and why Trump believes that black people should “honor him” with their vote.
