Day 647: Trump continues shameful lying about 9/11 for personal gain

Donald Trump has lied about and exploited the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in any way possible for 17 years.

The shameful trend continued Saturday night.

Just hours after a white nationalist and anti-Semite shot up a synagogue in Pittsburgh that left 11 dead, Trump was defending his decision to still hold a planned rally in Murphysboro, Illinois — after an earlier stop in Indianapolis, Indiana — by invoking the post-9/11 stock market.

“And with what happened early today — that horrible, horrible attack in Pittsburgh — I was saying maybe I should cancel both this and that. And then I said to myself, I remember Dick Grasso, a friend of mine, great guy. He headed up the New York Stock Exchange on September 11. And the New York Stock Exchange was open the following day. He said — and what they had to do to open it you wouldn’t believe. We won’t even talk to you about it. But he got that exchange open.”

Except September 11, 2001 was a Tuesday, and the attacks began just before the morning bell.

So the New York Stock Exchange did not open that day.

It did not open Wednesday, as Trump claimed.

Or Thursday.

Or Friday.

The NYSE did not open until the following Monday, September 17, in what was the longest period of the market being shutdown in nearly 70 years.

So Trump is free to try and justify a rally just hours after 11 Americans were senselessly slaughtered, but to use 9/11 as the reason why just continues a heinous trend for Trump that flies in the face of the truth.
