Day -64: Trump’s Technological Shortcomings Show Insight into Man
The president-elect has no idea how to use him computer. His understanding of 21st century technology seems limited to using the Twitter app to yell at various people who disagree with him. (Even then, it’s unclear just how much he types himself and how much he dictates for an assistant.) Still, he’s concerned about technology saying during a presidential debate:
As far as the cyber, I agree to parts of what Secretary Clinton said.
The cyber. Ooooookay…
That begs the question: when running a multi-million (if you believe him, and we don’t, a multi-billion dollar company), what exactly did Donald Trump do all day? He wasn’t responding to emails (“I don’t do the email thing,” he once testified in deposition), drafting documents, editing contractual provisions, scrolling Reddit or playing Minesweeper. We know he lost nearly a billion dollars in one year during the mid-1990s boom. We know he loves photo ops. But what did he do in the office, besides eat taco bowls?
How does someone in 2016 occupy a full day in the office and not actively use any technology more modern than the telephone? Did he just sit down and meet people all day, save for the occasional phone call?
Sure, he relied on many people. All of upper management does. No harm there. Yes, he had assistants do some things for him. Standard practice; that’s why they’re there. Totally normal.
But how inefficient is it to have secretaries printing and delivering news from websites? How much sense does it make to confirm something over the phone as opposed to written documentation via email (for Trump, this probably makes great sense, considering the number of contractors over the years). Why dictate a short response instead of a brief email?
The man had no desire to learn. A rich leopard doesn’t change his spots after all.
To be a fly on the wall in Trump Tower to see him “work” for 10 hours a day would be mind-blowing. Change a few decorations and you’d be convinced the year was 1956, not 2016.
As the President, his style is highly unlikely to change. Will he bother to learn in the next nine weeks? Maybe we should be asking, instead: can he?
Again, he is a leopard.
