Day 633: Trump gets called out on his crap, continues to be woefully childish and naive
Many journalists have treated Donald Trump with kid gloves. They get insulted nearly every day, but are careful not to say anything too forceful in rebuttal, worried they’ll get shunned or called partisan. Networks — other than Fox — are careful to balance the coverage between a liberal voice and a conservative voice, rather than just covering the truth and reporting actual news.
On 60 Minutes, Lesley Stahl had her moment and used it to push back on Trump in a way few journalists have done to his face.
For instance, Trump loves to use mealy-mouthed language to obscure the fact that he has no clue what he’s talking about on a wide variety of topics. Over the past two years, he’s been shown to be ignorant about topics ranging from healthcare to trade to to immigration to foreign relations to basic constitutional issues.
On 60 Minutes, when talking about climate change, Trump said “they say” that weather patterns have been just as bad in the past to throw water on the notion that there’s human being-caused climate change.
Who is “they,” exactly? Stahl asked.
Trump has no clue, because he’s just using words and ideas that he doesn’t understand to form semi-coherent statements. The scientists must have a “very big political agenda,” Trump claimed, despite the fact that Trump is choosing to believe people he made up in his own mind.
On Kim Jong-un — similar to what he would claim about Vladimir Putin — Trump admitted both that he loved him and was aware of the many, many atrocities he has committed. When called out on that dichotomy, Trump metaphorically waved his hand: “Let it be whatever it is. I get along with him really well.”
On helping prevent World War III, Trump was pushed on the fact that he doesn’t seem to grasp the importance of NATO. So he resorted to attacking his own Secretary of Defense, a four-star general who has served the United State around the world over a decades-long career.
Stahl scoffed at the notion that Trump could be more well versed in the subject than James Mattis and Trump promptly retreated, reiterating his support for NATO.
Called out repeatedly during the interview, Trump ended up bashing the media and acting like the petulant child he always turns into when faced with an iota of resistance.
