Day 63: Trump-Russia Coordination Noise Grows Louder
The Donald Trump — Russia onion keeps getting its layers peeled back.
CNN reports that the ties between the Trump campaign and Russia and being closely examined and there are a number of suspicious connections.
The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, US officials told CNN.
This is partly what FBI Director James Comey was referring to when he made a bombshell announcement Monday before Congress that the FBI is investigating the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia, according to one source.
The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings, according to those U.S. officials. The information is raising the suspicions of FBI counterintelligence investigators that the coordination may have taken place, though officials cautioned that the information was not conclusive and that the investigation is ongoing.
If — and at the moment this is still a fairly big if — the investigation shows a connection between the campaign and Russia to bring down a political opponent, Trump & Co. are looking at high crimes; everyone from Trump on down will go down with this ship.
Coordination between a foreign government and American citizens to harm the U.S.’s interests or its democracy is by the very definition of the word treason. Trump can lash out on Twitter all he wants, but the pressure is mounting.
CNN’s report is the latest to indicate that there wasn’t some coincidental benefit for the Trump campaign.
The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff (D-CA), indicated there was a lot more to come as well.
