Day 617: Trump signs spending bill he vowed to never sign
Seeing an $854 billion spending bill that didn’t include federal funding for a southern border wall, Donald Trump was furious. After all, it was just months ago that he vowed to never sign another spending bill that didn’t include money allocated for the wall.
Trump threatened to shut down the government if border funding wasn’t part of a spending bill, saying in July that he “would have no problem” with such a prospect.
Just eight days ago, he reiterated his irritation, tweeting, “I want to know, where is the money for Border Security and the WALL in this ridiculous Spending Bill, and where will it come from after the Midterms?”
When push came to shove on Friday, Trump, as usual, was all bark and no bite: he signed the bill. However, he couldn’t just eat humble pie without throwing a ridiculous and false claim in, saying about Democrats, they “want drugs and crime to pour into our country.”
