Day 615: So that’s why Trump hasn’t given a press conference in 587 days
Trump a disaster at first press conference in 18 months.
The last stand-alone press conference Donald Trump gave was in February 2017. That ignominious streak came to an end Wednesday afternoon when Trump gave a bizarre and rambling press conference at the United Nations.
It was certainly doozy, filled with few moments of clarity or truth.
Without any evidence, earlier Wednesday Trump accused China of trying to hack the 2018 election to undermine him. When asked for proof, he had none but said that the Chinese respected his “very large brain.”
He seemed to think that a tariff was not a type of tax when in reality a tariff is a specific tax on a specific imported good.
Trump claimed that George Washington wouldn’t even be confirmed to the Supreme Court in today’s political climate for the strangest of reasons.
He struggled with basic human interaction in dealing with reporters.
Lying was prevalent throughout.
Trump deferred to a friend’s commentary on the sexual assault allegations against him.
Finally, he compared his press conference to a concert performance, instead of a serious discussion about policy and other pressing issues.
When the dust settled, it was clear that Trump doesn’t take questions at open press conferences because he’s incapable of answering the most basic of questions and comes off poorly when even attempting something resembling a response.
It’s highly unlikely that Trump press conferences will be a regular occurrence as they’ve been for virtually every one of his predecessors.
