Day 58: Trump Turtles Around Another World Leader

Angela Merkel encounters the Donald Trump Experience

German Chancellor Angela Merkel visted the White House yesterday. Continuing Donald Trump’s long history of awkward moments with foreign leaders (see, for example, meetings with leaders from Mexico, Japan and Canada), the meeting with Merkel was strange.

They largely refused to look at each other in front of the press. Then, Trump refused a handshake with Merkel.

The German press — despite the American press’s frequent hesitation — called out Trump.

“Why are you scared of diversity in the media that you talk about fake news?” one media member asked. Another asked about the false wiretapping allegations he made about the Obama White House: “After these clear rejections, are their other suspects? … And are there tweets you regret?”

Of course, Trump pulled the ultimate coward move and talked tough and as soon as Merkel left.

Trump is the ultimate bully: if you’re smarter or stronger he retreats into his shell; if he senses weakness, he attacks.

Trump is neither smart enough nor strong enough to do the job as POTUS. When he meets with foreign leaders, it’s painfully obvious to everyone — including himself — that he is in over his head.
