Day -58: Trump Has His Nixon Moment
Richard Nixon said in his famous post-resignation David Frost interview series, “When the President does something, that means that it is not illegal.”
President-elect Trump met with The New York Times yesterday and said:
“The president can’t have a conflict of interest.”
THE PRESIDENT CAN’T HAVE A CONFLICT OF INTEREST???
Wow. And no, he doesn’t mean that the president should avoid conflicts of interest. He means that the president is incapable of conflicts of interest.
“…and then…”
We now live in a world where our president will make decisions which help himself and the country in that order. It’s hard to fathom Trump making a single decision which harm his interests but actually helps the country. He’ll probably justify decisions anyway he can, but make no mistake, Trump comes first.
His comments show that he’s not only aware that there will be conflicts of interest, but he doesn’t care.
Will you? Will the GOP-led Congress?
Who’s going to be this generation’s Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein?
Because Maggie Haberman has already laid claim to be David Frost.
