Day 503: Trump not knowing words to ‘God Bless America,’ is not as bad as him blatantly lying about event attendees
After the Philadelphia Eagles informed the White House that only a handful of players would show up for a photo-op and visit, Trump lied and claimed that he cancelled the meet and greet because the players didn’t respect the flag or the military.
Trump insisted that a celebration on the South Lawn with the fans would go on, however, and it would be transitioned to a “Celebration of America” event, whatever that means.
Trump was roundly mocked for his inability to remember — or never having actually known — the words to “God Bless America.”
He seems to know the first seven words, pretends to mouth a few more and then just stands there.
But even apart from the embarrassing display by Trump, the entire event was a farce. Despite claiming that the event was for Eagles fans, there didn’t appear to be a whole lot of Eagles fans there. In fact, most people were dressed in business attire and appeared to be Republicans staffers.
The event was propaganda in its purest form: wrap an event in the flag and patriotism, find a scapegoat, put on a photographic event that is loosely tied to any real facts, and shape the narrative how your want.
The entire spectacle was over in less than 10 minutes.
