Day 502: Trump lies about reasons for uninviting Eagles to White House

The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles were invited to the White House for a Tuesday visit before Donald Trump abruptly cancelled the visit on Monday.

Trump blamed the lack of a full team and claimed that players disagree with him because “he insists they proudly stand for the National Anthem.”

In a tweet, he also said staying in the locker room during the anthem was no better.

Except, the New England Patriots had far from a full team last year and Trump welcomed them with open arms. And not a single Eagles player kneeled or stayed in the locker room during the national anthem during the season or playoffs.

Trump was going to be embarrassed by a smaller delegation than ones received by his presidential predecessors from both sides of the aisle. So he cancelled the photo-op and invitation while lying about the reasons and libeling the entire Eagles organization.

Fox News, furthering the symbiotic relationship between the network and the White House, helped stoke the flames of Trump’s lie by discussing the topic while showing Eagles players taking a knee before the game. But the players were praying and the anthem was not playing.

Some of the Eagles players called out the network, which has yet to retract or delete any of its coverage.
