Day 495: After 16 months in office, Trump vows to finally get to work
No more focus on the Russia probe, he claims.
Donald Trump has ranted and raved about the Russia investigation for well over a year, no matter how much fruit it bears, how many indictments are issued, and how much everyone agrees that the Russians were involved — in some capacity — in at least trying to influence the 2016 election.
He has decried Robert Mueller’s probe as a “conflict of interest” despite that position making absolutely no sense. Now, he’s publicly vowing to move on, promising to focus on the job at hand.
Trump says he must “start focusing his energy” on things like North Korea, trade deals, the VA, the economy and the military, which begs the questions: what has he been doing for 495 days?
While his tweet implies that he’s been consumed with the Russia investigation, Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s attorney, previously and contradictorily told Mueller’s team that Trump was already too busy to sit down for an interview.
Meanwhile, Trump is setting all kinds of presidential vacation records, including spending his 157th day at a Trump property this past weekend, or 32 percent of his days in office.
Trump’s promise to get started on things of vital importance to the nation is as tone deaf as it is false. No one actually believes he’s going to suddenly become a focused, non-stop machine working for the American people while leaving the Russia probe in the rear-view mirror.
In fact, Trump’s promise lasted exactly two hours and three minutes.
