Day 485: Another school shooting, nothing changes for Trump

Donald Trump’s lack of empathy — even after school shootings — is infamous. He doesn’t have the ability to emote any sense of understanding or compassion to any group of people after tragedy.

Three months after the Parkland school shooting that left 17 dead, Sante Fe High School in Texas was invaded by a school shooter. Eight students and two teachers were killed in the rampage.

The typical tropes were offered by conservatives as solutions: thoughts, prayers, anti-bullying campaigns, mental illness treatments, reducing points of ingress and egress. Anything but real gun reform, really.

For Trump, he basically ran back the same script as Parkland.

Act I: Start with a tweet acting as a reporter of what’s going on while showing little empathy.

Act II: Claim you’re committed to action, but when the cameras go away, and the NRA lobbyists meet with you, get nothing done.

Act III: Quickly move on.
